Works well, but case is poorly designed,
I purchased this enclosure because I already own an IDE enclosure that looks almost exactly the same as this one. In my haste, I purchased this not realizing it is essentially a cheap knock-off of the one I own. Beware.
I have had no problems transferring data using this enclosure with an SATA hard disk. However, I will refrain from buying another one of these enclosures due to the poor construction of the case and poor design of the power cable. The enclosure is equipped to connect to both IDE and SATA disks, but there is barely enough room inside the enclosure for the SATA power cable. I had to literally crumple the cord into the case to get the top closed. Normally this would not bother me, except the SATA cord is very thick and acts like a spring when it’s curled up inside that tiny space in the shape of an ‘S’. The SATA cord offers so much resistance that I had to force the top of the enclosure shut and hold it down tightly to fit the screws.
Also, the power cable runs an irritatingly short distance from the transformer to the plug for the enclosure. The large block of a transformer is much closer to the enclosure side of the cable than the outlet plug side of the cable, which forces me to rest the transformer on my desktop next to the enclosure. I see this as not only an eyesore, but also a safety issue for the enclosure, and perhaps the enclosed hard disk as well. If the heavy transformer were pushed off the edge of the desk, it could take the enclosure with it, introducing a risk of shock damage to the hard disk.
On the positive side, this enclosure does securely support the hard disk with four small screws. Not all enclosures have that feature.
I’d like to test the IDE interface, but I’m afraid of putting unnecessary strain on the enclosure.
