Veteran Mac User – Solved Problem, Works Great Now,
Another Mac reviewer noted the drive would fall into sleep mode before back up could be completed. Happened to me as well, no matter how I formatted the drive, or whatever software strategy I used. I now have got it working. What was the problem?
My Mac G5 Desktop under Tiger would cannot juggle two firewire devices at once. When I unplugged one, and then tried to format a bootable drive, it was able to format successfully and I was able to boot my back up clone.
Note: It does not matter if the other device is off line, if it is plugged in a firewire port, it will not format correctly, and/or just keep going to sleep. So if it falls asleep on you when you try to back up, make sure you have only ONE firewire device plugged in. All should work well from there.
Good luck!

“Awesome” according to my Apple consultant, this unit arrived and was connected and up and running in a matter of minutes. Well made and very compact with 2TB capacity. I am completely satisfied with this drive and highly recommend it.

so far so good,
I researched several 2+ TB disks, looking for fw800 mostly. Out of the herd, this one stood out, largely because Seagate uses their own disks. I have had problems with LaCie & WD, both had power supply issues, which lead to corrupted data. This one is fast & runs reasonably cool. The base (with all external connections) is unnecessary & could be a problem later – 1 more connector to fail. Also the FW800 has one port on the side, which means that a group cannot set close together. So far the 2 disks I have are working as expected. The real test comes in a year or more. Overall I am happy – that’s what counts!
